Smart balls have been gaining popularity lately, perhaps partly from the surge of folks looking for Ben Wa balls as mentioned in Fifty Shades of Grey, and probably mainly from the cultural shift that is sexual health and well-being. Neither are bad things of course, and it is interesting to see how they play out to see how consumers respond.

Not to hate on Ben Wa balls, but I found them to be disappointing–they are tiny marble-sized balls that sit inside your vagina. That’s it. Sometimes they even fall out. Plus they are hard to really feel. (Review to come!) But smart balls, on the other hand, you can feel while they sit inside your vagina, mainly because they are larger balls. Smart balls and Ben Wa balls are not exactly the most erotic of sex products; they are really much more like exercise products that happen to be covered in lube and vaginal juice. Plus, there are actual exercises that you can actively do with the balls to more quickly notice the PC muscles strengthening and to enable you to take a more proactive role in kegelcise rather than simply wearing smart balls around the house, town, what have you.

Enter a new brand of smart balls, Velvet Plush: the ultimate Kegel Kit by Icon Brands. This is their take on what is soon becoming a classic niche of sex toys. This kit comes with three differently weighted balls and two harnesses. The balls are color-coded, the lightest shade being the lightest weight, medium shade is the medium weight, and the darkest shade the heaviest weighted ball. The balls have smaller weights in them that jiggle around, which is largely what you’ll feel while wearing them. These materials have a smooth texture to them, which makes inserting them with lubricant comfortable.

I will say that I most often just pop in the smart balls and wear them around for an hour or so. I am sure the benefits are more quickly noticeable with the exercises. One of the other main reasons I enjoy wearing them is because they are actively, minimally stimulating my vagina. While this doesn’t mean I am constantly aroused with them popped in, it means I can more easily become aroused. Add a butt plug to the mix and voila! You have a rather content Geeky.

To get an idea, toning the PC (pelvic floor) muscles is what one does when voluntarily stopping the flow of urine. The benefits of strong, toned PC muscles are numerous. It is said to help in vaginal birthing, incontinence, and stronger orgasms, to name a few. People of all sexes can benefit from having toned PC muscles.

Icon describes its 6-step system on the Kegel Kit’s packaging:

Week 1- Light: Place the lightest kegel ball only (light-purple) in the single-ball harness and wear it for one hour per day for seven consecutive days.

Week 2- Medium: Switch to medium ball, colored medium purple, and repeat..one hour per day for seven consecutive days.

Week 3- Heavy: Switch to heaviest ball, in dark purple and repeat; one hour per day for seven days.

Week 4- L/M: Switch to the two-ball harness, insert the light and medium balls; wear one hour per day for seven days.

Week 5: L/H: In two-ball harness, insert the light and heavy balls; repeat timeframe.

Week 6: M/H: Also in two-ball harness, insert the medium and heavy balls; repeat timeframe.

This kit has ABS plastic balls with silicone casing. The balls have a seam across them, and there are smaller weighted beads inside of the shell. The balls each weigh approximately 1.4 ounces, 1.9 ounces and 2.6 ounces. The insertable length is 2.25 inches for the single harness and 4.25 inches for the double harness. Do not use these balls anally.

I do not think the balls are boilable, but they can be cleaned with soap and water, toy cleaner, or a 10% bleach solution. The harnesses are made of silicone and also have a seam across them. I performed a flame test to these harnesses to see if they were a higher percentage of silicone, and the harnesses did not melt. While the flame test is not infallible, it is a good initial indicator that these harnesses are body safe. I believe they themselves are boilable, but can also be cleaned in the same ways as the balls.

While I don’t necessarily care for the color scheme of these balls, I think the kit is decent. The fact that the balls can be swapped to create lighter and heavier sets adds some versatility to the product. Taking the balls out and putting them back in the harnesses is rather easy to do because the harnesses are very flexible. I think they are a great size too. I have heard from some that the Je Joue set (linked below) can be a bit too small and heavy, which causes them to more easily pop out. I can also imagine Fun Factory’s set might be on the large side for some people. This Kegel Kit is a medium size, and they sit comfortably inside my vagina throughout my time wearing them.

In conclusion, I was pleased with the performance of this set. I don’t care for the seams on the balls and harnesses, nor the pink-purple color scheme. I do see myself using these balls regularly. I was very pleased to see the harnesses held up to a flame test too.

Thanks to The Adult Toy Shop for providing me with the Kegel Kit in exchange for my honest review of the product. xoxo

As far as smart balls are concerned, I have also reviewed Je Joue Ami, Fun Factory’s Teneo Duo, and Kandi and OhMiBod’s Hold on to Me kegel kits.

Njoy’s Pure Wand is an orgasm-inducing, sheet-soaking, queef machine. My review could end there and you would have all the information you need.

First point: This curved, stainless steel dildo is amazing. The Pure Wand has the perfect curve that follows the contour my vagina, almost too perfectly, because at times I crave more friction and resistance with dildo shapes and textures. When it presses against my G-spot, it presses hard with its 1.5 pounds of badass stainless steel. It feels great and is really easy to use, except for the slight resistance getting into the vagina initially and the fact that once you pop you can’t stop. (Pringles reference! They should pay me.) I never want to stop using this dildo once I start, and every time I use it I am pleasantly reminded. The Pure Wand is made for G-spot stimulation, and with the large, heavy ball at the end, how could it miss? This is my favorite toy yet.

Second point: I didn’t heed Epiphora’s warning to put towels down before trying the Pure Wand out, and I very much regretted not doing so. I seriously soaked my bedding down to the mattress. Oi. So, be warned, this toy can and will cause you to gush fluids. More fluids than you could ever <del>anticipate</del> imagine.

Third point: While this is a simple, solid metal dildo, it makes my vagina queef noisily more than anything else ever. Using this toy is not discreet at times because it unabashedly makes my vagina make sounds I hadn’t thought were possible at such a volume. This amuses me almost as much as fart jokes. Granted, the Pure Wand makes me queef easily because I once I start thrusting with this toy, I don’t want to stop until I become a soaked, sweaty pile of exhaustion and bliss. Queefing is inevitable. Queef.

I really like how cool the metal feels when I first insert this dildo. The Pure Wand is long enough to hold firmly and comfortably. The handle end has a smaller ball on it (which is also insertable) and this helps you grasp it. It never slips out of my hand as my juices never reach that far down the Wand. The heaviness of this toy is ideal for exercising my PC muscles too.

Product details:

Material: medical grade stainless steel

Length: 11 inches

Width: 1.5 inches

Weight: 1.5+ pounds

Cleaning: boilable, dishwasher-safe, soap & water, toy cleaner

Nonporous and nontoxic

Latex-free, phthalates-free, hypoallergenic

You haven’t known G-spot pleasure until you’ve tried this toy. Seriously.

Queef. What a hideous word for such a beautifully hilarious sound.

Thanks to a wonderful reader for sending this toy my way! You folks spoil me rotten! xoxo

I have tried two other brands of kegelcisors smart balls, and I am happy with the Je Joue Ami set. It comes with three smart balls, all of which are made of a velvety-smooth silicone and come with different shapes and weights.

The reason I like kegelcisors is because of all of the benefits they can offer. They can aid with incontinence and strengthen PC muscle to have better bladder control. With a stronger PC muscle, one may experience stronger orgasms, which may also be felt by one’s partner (meaning you might have a stronger ability to grip what is inside your vagina, be it a penis, dildo, fingers, what have you. Strengthening PC muscles may help especially during menopause, when women experience a general lack of natural lubrication.

The Je Joue Ami smart balls are smoother and smaller than some other types of smart balls. They are comfortable to wear. They have smaller balls contained in them, and when you jiggle them you can feel them. I enjoyed feeling them wiggle as I walked about; in fact it encouraged me to do more walking in order to feel them more.

The Amis are on the smaller side, but their weights are substantial for their purpose:

Ami 1: 1.65 ounces

Ami 2: 2.75 ounces

Ami 3: 3.73 ounces

Here is their size visually compared to Fun Factory’s Teneo Duo:

The smart balls should be inserted with the aid of some lubricant- water-based is best since the balls are silicone. The lubricant aids with the insertion, mainly because you are not necessarily aroused and self-lubricated every time you put these balls in your vagina.

The Je Joue Ami set of smart balls comes with a pamphlet, which includes details as to why this product is useful, and how to do a few basic kegel exercises.

Smart balls are great to use before, during and after pregnancy. They are useful during menopause and for incontinence (as aforementioned).

The kegel exercises are very basic and can be done as often as you would like and be able to do them. The one exercise suggested by Je Joue is to lie down, and with the smart ball inserted, you squeeze to grip the ball, holding for a couple seconds, and then releasing the pressure. You can do this in several sets in a day, week, what have you.

The other exercise suggested is to sit, and while you are squeezing, holding onto the smart ball, gently tug at the string so as to put it out of your vagina. This adds extra pressure and makes your PC muscle work harder to keep the smart ball inside your vagina.

Of course, the more often you exercise the PC muscle, the quicker it will get stronger.

The balls can be washed with soap and water, toy cleaner, and can even be boiled. (Je Joue recommends boiling for approximately 20 seconds to lengthen the life of the Je Joue Ami set.)

Pros

Smooth, squishy silicone

Different weight and shapes

Convenient display and storage case

Cons

Case could be more travel-friendly

Limited recommended boiling time

The reason I like the Je Joue Ami smart balls (and kegels in general) is that I like wearing them while I do my daily chores or run errands. It’s my sexy secret. My PC muscle is getting a workout while I go about my usual business. Feeling the gentle stimulation is a subtly arousing experience.

The Je Joue Ami smart balls have an appealing, velvety texture to them. I love that they are made of silicone and are hygienic. They serve their purpose well and I have noticed in small ways how my PC muscle is stronger after using kegelcisors.

Rated: five out of five stars

This set of kegelcisors includes 4 weighted balls and 2 holders. It comes with a small satin storage bag and a cheap-looking display box. Each smart ball has a set of dots on it, which indicates its weight. The balls are interchangeable in the holders, which means you can mix and match weighted balls to slowly increase the strength of your PC muscles.

1 Dot: 25g
2 Dots: 30g
3 Dots: 35g
4 Dots: 40g

The balls are 1.2 inches in diameter and are made of ABS plastic. The holders are made of silicone (or not: read on).

I appreciate the versatility of 2 holders and 4 different weighted balls with this kegelcisors set. It’s a nice idea of being able to interchange the weights as your strength increases. However, there are several deal-breaking points that unfortunately make this product undesirable.

First I was unimpressed by how thin and flimsy the strings were, because I thought that they would easily tear, like thin rubber bands. Other smart balls have a hoop string, which is more noticeably felt when wearing the ball. These smart balls are also smaller. As seen on the right, the Fun Factory Teneo Duo is clearly bigger than the Hold Onto Me balls. The size and the weight are what I want in smart balls, because I want to feel my PC muscles working and squeezing on them. When the balls are too small they are more likely to get pushed out, as I have experienced often.

Speaking of the holders being rubber band-like, the ‘silicone’ material of the holders doesn’t act like proper medical or food grade silicone (which are the two types that are hygienically safe for sexual usage). The material seems similar to rubber or some cheap combination that is not safe for one’s body. To test the material of the holders, I did a flame test, which is detailed more by Dangerous Lilly. Basically, quality silicone should not melt from the flame of a lighter. And this material did crumble and melt, as shown below.

While this test has been contested, I just don’t want to risk it with my body, ya know? I’d rather play it safe and use quality products that I know are hygienic.

To sum it up: the possibly positive features of the Hold on to Me balls:

versatility of balls and holders (4 balls, single holder, double holder)

thinness of strings (?)

satin pouch

The definite negative features:

mystery material

flimsiness

small size

Dangerous Lilly‘s detailed review for the Hold Onto Me set is very informative as well. Compared to other smart balls, I prefer the others. I own the Fun Factory Teneo Duo and the Je Joue Ami set of smart balls, and I like both. I have heard great things about the Lelo Luna Beads too, so check ‘em out. All of these various kegelcisors are within a similar price range! Thanks Babeland! xoxo
